Q Magazine has a dominant recognisable house style. It always uses red for the masthead in the
top left corner. There is a slight overlap of the image. Which gives off a 3D effect.
The lure is what brings the audience in. The capitalised headline / main cover line 'UNMASKED' makes the audience want to find out about the topic. Also the story is a kicker as it stands out from the rest of the cover. In addition, the text and story is in white and this matches the house style with the white Q.
There are multiple banners. This stands out from the colour scheme and gives of the torn look to it. This also makes it a pug.
The issue has connections as the main cover line says 'summer' and the image has the models holding a ice cream which is the iconography. The blue sky and the ice creams are visual symbolic signs of summer (Barthes)
This front cover is unconventional as you can't see the models face in the image. The image would give a direct address if the models were not wearing masks but we can see that the models are facing the camera which could be used as a lure.
The image would appeal to a male audience more than a female audience as the colour blue is used in the background. The image was taken in a studio as you can see that there is light spots on their shoulders and masks. Additionally we can see the reflection of a landscape in one of the models visors. According to Dyer 'A star is an image, not a real person.' and this is shown by the models with futuristic costumes.
The fonts used are of a different style and size. The fonts range from a bold and blocky font on the main story of Daft Punk. All the fonts and style of writing is all sans serif. which is easier to use and to read when the font is in sans serif. There is a slanted banner in the middle of the main title. Some of the fonts match the main colour scheme of being white and red style.
How this has influenced my creativity:
- The use of the image to set the scene with the season of weather also the wording used.
- The image that is overlapping the Q logo.
- The range of fonts and style used as it will bring a variation to magazine.
Great to see you using some subject terminology Harry. Can you apply any theorists to this?
ReplyDeleteYou also need to add a subheading 'How this has influenced my ideas and creativity' at the end of this and respond to it.
